I still cannot seem to forget about this. It is so disturbing to me, especially as a queer guy who has received much persecution in his youth.
How can you justify trying to support gay youth with a man who stabbed a homosexual to death and never received proper punishment for it or ever once showed any remorse for his actions? Tell me why would you do something like this?
I ask of you, please remove this image. Its so hypocritical and cruely deceiving to any gay youth who sees it. Imagine how they would feel if they looked up Faust's history after seeing this and found about his hateful murder. They would feel that even with those who claim to support them, hatred and death is still the legacy they recieve. It would be utterly devastating.
.... I am NOT trying to create drama. I am raising a legitimate concern.
You have here some individual who is name Faust and carries the logo of the band Emperor. Emperor had a former drummer named Faust who stabbed a homosexual man to death and shows no remorse for it. If this is some seperate character you created than the actual Bard Faust, I feel it would be unconsious to not make it clear in the description that this character is NOT the same person. To have the character with that neam eand that logo says instantly that he is Bard Faust. Unless you make that perfecally clear, anyone like me will believe that he is Bard Faust. And that leaves open the chance for a gay youth to stumble across this, get all the wrong messages, and then discover the really cruel truth about Emperor's drummer.
I insist that if this is not Bard Faust and you want to have this item up for Spirit Day, you make it clear in your description that this caracter is not Emperor's drummer.
it is not.To be clear and honest I never thought about the coincidence between the two. I named my character Faust a long time ago,a long before to know the Emperor band itself and to know the band has a drummer who killed this homosexual in 90's. My Faust is not Bard Faust in any way. I'll update the commentto make it clear but certainly not remove the pic.O_O
Well now that is it defined clearly that this is not the same character, it makes it more acceptable. Unles syou make it clear, especially if he is pictured with the Emperor logo, people are going to believe it is Bard Faust. It looked liked that to me and it was very upseting for me to see that on Spirit Day. I escpecially did not want the same thing to happen to any gay youth who would be far more unsure and insecure on wether anyone felt they had value to their life.
why make such a negative assumption.. one would think she would have detailed such a history if that had been her intention.
faust im sure she derived from faustus who made a deal with the devil. german legend... like ancient. i would have looked it up before antagonizing poor orpheelin 90% of the art she has posted on da has historical roots if not based completely in history... pre-emperor!
But he is wearing an Emperor logo. that coupled with his name says instantly it is Bard Faust. Everything you put into a drawing has significance and an artist should consider that their art should speak for them... not them speak for their art. What she provided here in the drawing lends the random viewer to assume this is Bard Faust and there is no specific detail to say this is the pre-Renaissance Dr. Faustus. I am not antagonizing her. Unless she wnats to take it as such. I am responding to her art in a direct manner and not using insults and attacks on her person. I am raising what is a very legitimate concern: a individual who is known for killing a homosexual being used as a support icon for gay youth.
After finding out this is not the same Faust, I feel she should work more on communication in her artwork. Else, you give people the wrong message.
true but at the same time its not necessarily a correlation that was intended... some people are more sensitive to that kind of information than others. for example... i had never heard of that band member killing a homosexual. either way i read up on it and i cant find anything that says faust killed a gay man because the man was gay.
FAUST, FAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST. But... but she's Illy. Huu (I prefer Cendre, i'm sorry!) The drawing is very sentimental and... simple I think. I prefer simple drawings to complicated and crammed. Well... simple is a good word, of course! I really love the Faust's expression *w* Is too cute. And again, I'm sorry for my engliiiish ~~
Superbe!!!
This is beautiful, I really love your work. Almost makes me want to try to learn French again so I can read the story!
I'm also glad you drew this, because it's been my experience that people sometimes seem to think that people who don't like slash are homophobic (stupid I know) and this proves perfectly that it just isn't the case.
